Whitey Bulger Says He Spent His Life Foolishly

Huffington Post - James “Whitey” Bulger, mobster and convicted murderer, has a simple message for the younger generation: Don’t waste your life.

In a letter penned in February, Bulger told three teens working on a project at a high school in Lakeville, Massachusetts, that his “life was wasted and spent foolishly,” bringing “shame and suffering on my parents and siblings.”

The students — all 17-year-old juniors at Apponequet Regional High School — were working on a website for a National History Day competition and sent Bulger a message requesting his opinion on his legacy, according to The Boston Globe, which was provided with a copy of the letter.

Bulger, now 85, was sent to prison in 2013 after he was convicted of killing 11 people during his “reign of terror” as a Boston crime boss in the 1970s and ’80s. Throughout his trial, Bulger showed no remorse for his actions, swearing at witnesses during a period of “unwavering defiance,” according to the Globe. He was captured in Santa Monica, California, in 2011 after evading federal officials for more than 16 years, and is currently serving two life sentences.

So Whitey Bulger who is probably the coldest, scariest, and most terrifying human being on Earth (Earth is an exaggeration, most likely just the Boston area) writes back to these high school girls that are doing a project on his life of crime. In my opinion it’s a little bit weird that he has probably never apologized to anyone in his life but decides to tell these girls how regretful he is. I would maybe started with the families of the victims I killed and not with a couple of random 17 year old girls? I don’t know, I guess thats just me but that isn’t the weirdest part of this whole thing.

Whitey saying that his life was “wasted and spent foolishly” is probably the understatement of the century. An alcoholic, maybe a stripper, me after I get out of college might look back and say that most of my life was wasted and spent foolishly. All of those are accurate and acceptable to say. If you’re a cold blooded murder and mob leader who swears at witnesses while on trial saying that is just outrageous. I can’t even think of a word or two to describe his life but it is definitely not foolish.

I’m not sure why, but I’ve never been more interested in something than Whitey Bulger and the Winter Hill Gang. Maybe its because the whole thing is so local or because I’m a little bit crazy, I don’t know. I love hearing people talk about it and watching documentaries about it. Also, if no one else agrees with me on that one then just forget mentioned it.
